Wildlife

AN ESTATE THAT IS NEVER TRULY SILENT.

At Herdade da Saudade, wildlife is part of the landscape.

Across the fields, woodland, paths and areas of water, you may encounter deer, wild boar, foxes and rabbits, together with a rich variety of game birds that find shelter, food and space within the estate.

They do not always reveal themselves. Sometimes their presence is no more than movement between the trees, a distant sound or a trace left along a path.

This wildlife shares the land with the estate’s own animals. Cattle and sheep roam the pastures and remain part of a rural landscape that is both living and productive.

Small reservoirs and ponds scattered throughout the property create further ecosystems of their own, attracting birds and other forms of life to the water.

Here, you never quite know what may be waiting beyond the next bend.

Perhaps that is one of the best reasons to walk slowly.
